Dicksbro---My prayers are with you.If it helps, the only way that I,
personally, could handle, my fathers passing, was to think of it as
little as possible,otherwise I couldn't handle it.Everyone handles things differently.If I can help,just contact me. Irish

We just got back from Joliet. Saw my brother today. They kept him going so we could spend some hours with him. They'll keep doing those things that will avoid pain, but will remove him from other medications this evening ... probably have already. The doctor believes it could be over within a few hours at most.
At least we got to see him and we hope from minor hand squeezes and some wrinkled eyebrows that he may have been aware that we were there. Stayed for about 6 hours and got to spend time with all his family which was very nice.
As much as we'd always like things to get better ... the truth is that would truly take a miracle of the first order. I think I'm taking it pretty well ... I think I only lost it briefly before we left to go up to Joliet and briefly as we said our last goodbyes before we had to get back on the road.
His family is dealing reasonably well and that's a blessing. One daughter doesn't want to accept the reality and so I know this will be hard on her. But even she is trying.
Thank you all for your love and support. I told my brother I knew of many really terrific people who were sending their support for all of us. You really are terrific people ... all of you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Will let you know what ever the final arrangements end up being ... just to provide closure of sorts (for me, maybe).

Just to let you know. My brother was taken off the medications that controlled his blood pressure and they thought for sure the end would come quickly. It's been more than a day now and he's still holding on. Still doesn't open his eyes or talk or anything, but he hasn't given up on life. I think his family is planning on having their doctor re-evaluate whether or not something might be possible. He's one tough guy.
I'm sure a lot of it goes to the warm prayers and words of support you've all given. Thank you. I'll keep you posted.
Hugs ...

My Brother Passed Away Yesterday Evening
Last night around 5:30PM, my brother returned home to God. His son called us this morning and let us know. Plans are indefinite right now but it looks like visitiation will be next Tuesday and the funeral next Wednesday morning.
I just want to thank you all once more for having been so supportive. God bless you all. You made dealing with this much easier.
Hugs!

Dicksbro---This may sound stupid, but I have to say it.I thought
of it the other day!Feel free to change your"handle".I'm sure
that everyone would understand. On the other hand, this might
just increase your resolve to keep the same name,in honor of
your brother! Irish

Your love for him will go on and the pain will fade and the sweetest memories will prevail!
My heart goes out to you and your family. You will be in my thoughts and I wish you many happy memories of your dear brother!

Irish, thank you, but I will keep "dicksbro" as my handle. My brother was a person of fun and I suspect will grin a bit knowing that's how I chose to be known. He was very special to me and I don't want to let go of that. It's like Pixies.
Pixies is such a special place and all of you are the reason ... the most special of people.
Hugs to all of you!

dicksbro,
My condolences sir. From your descriptions, I'm certain your pleasant memories of him will last far longer that the pain of the separation.
