I lived in Belgium for a few months, and I *know* they do it too. Damn un-American if you ask me.  But then again, so many things that I like are un-American. Like Belgian moules and frites (damn, I miss those). Not to mention the beer...
Just can't pass up the chance to make fun of the French, especially since my boss is Parisian...although he is an exception to the rule.
Small factoid: ever noticed that France is *always* colored pink on maps? I think there's a rationale there...
