Coming of Age
Years before anyone had thought of the WWW, a Dr. Mockapetris came up with the Domain Name System (DNS) system while he was working on the Arpanet project, which was the forerunner of the internet. Twenty one years ago, back in 1983, he created the system which gives addresses names such as ".com" and ".org". Now that IPv6 is coming on-line, he thinks that all communication will be over the net, and we will no longer need phone numbers, just web addresses.
Dr. Mockapetris now works for a private firm.
It is thanks to Dr. Mockapetris that we don't have to remember addresses like 192.158.1.102
