Isonzo: Twelfth Battle Of Isonzo, aka, the
Battle of Caporetto: Austrians take 10,000 PoWs and 24 guns cut off south of Tolmezzo from Italian XII Corps (Tassoni) until November 5 retreating from Carnia. Italians begin retreat from Tagliamento to Piave (night November 4-5), after Austrian Isonzo armies force crossings.
When crossing this bridge over the Tagliamento, Kaiser Karl I (second from left) was so near to the front line that the advancing Austrian troops had not had time to clear the dead out his path:
