Technical Help!?!?!?!?!
 

Ok, I know there are some computer gurus out there in Pixieland. I have some tech problems and all the tech chat rooms are full of smartasses who won't give me a straight answer. Here's the problem. I just bought a new CD-RW drive for my computer, but I can't get it to burn CD's. It will read CD's fine, and format the blank disks, but I've tried using two different programs to burn CD's with and neither will work. Help!!!!

That´s very few description. Tell us everything about your system. Without further info it´s impossible giving advive.

I have to agree with GermanSteve. There are quite a number of possibilities, but to eliminat a few, more info is needed eg: what is your operating system (Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP etc), what software are you using to 'burn' (Nero EasyCD etc), what brand of burner is it, which EIDE cable is it on, how many Hard drives do you have etc. Hope this will help a little, so others can help you. :)

sounds a bit like a problem I had.

slow down the write speed and see what happens.

I burn a 4speed and normally don't have a problem, but the 16sp

the computer store set it on kept stuffing up.

Crash out one more coaster before you do anything radical.

later thought, are you using the cd/rw special disks?

i agree with oldfart i never burn any cd faster than 4 and im using nero 5.5 which i think is one of the best programs around i have found the faster the speed the more chance of errors

I think you should do as scorpi42 does. That seemed to work for my mate.

Ok... I have a 500 Mhz Pentium 3 processor, and 256Mb of RAM. I have the data cable ran from the board to the hard drive (which I only have one of) to the burner. The burner is listed as an ATAPI CD-RW burner 16x/12x/40x. That's about all I can say. I've tried using Nero and Easy CD...neither program will work. I have Easy CD 4 and it won't even recognize the drive, and Nero will get right up to the burn and stop.

Is the hard drive jumpered to "master" and the CD drive to "slave"?

Perhaps you could try with an exchange drive, just to see that the hardware is working. Or ask the dealer to check your drive.

Dump the problem back on the supplier.

the only other thing i can suggest is have you tried making the re writer the slave and putting it on the same cable as the cd drive i know most places say not to do this but the only problem ive had with mine set up this way is if you are copying a cd you need to let the pc store it first just takes longer

Had no problems with a set-up very similar to yours. I'm using Nero 4.0 .

Sounds like a problem with the computer hardware to me. Before you complain and ask for an exchange drive from the supplier, hinthint, open your computer's case and unplug and re-plug any and every connector of your computer. Could fix an intermittent connector contact or two .... :) and maybe cure another nuisance, too.

I've tried every connection I can...I have new Audio and Data Cables ran. I have seperate data cables for the HD and CDRW. I think it's a conflict with the computer itsself...i really don't know.
