History help

I was wondering if anyone on Pixies might be able to point to some books that cover the history of South-east Asia and India. Specifically, I'm looking for information on the ancient kingdoms/empires and the culture of that time. I have at least a little knowledge of ancient Japan and China, but southeast Asia and India I know very little about, unfortunately.

There are any number of books on the Colonial and pre-Colonial times in this region. Your public Library should be able to help here.

Maybe, but I live in a small town Midwest USA area, so the selection of books on history tends to be limited, and usually not covering much if any of the region I am looking for. That was why I was asking if anyone knew any titles, as I can probably have my library get a copy from the inter-library loan program.

I saw one, The Courts of Pre-Colonial South India: Material Culture and Kingship by Jennifer Howes. I didn't actually read it, but it was about 300 pages and seemed to be pretty interesting. A bit pricey, I thought, but as a library loaner, it might be worth checking out.

Thank you, BIBI and db, for the help. You both have given me a good starting place to work form, as I know so little of the history of that area (and what I do know, I can't remember if it is actually history or "Hollywood" history) that I really had no clue as to were to start.

Wikipedia would be a nice place to start.

Once you have found books on Wiki, look in www.gutenberg.org whe out-of-copywrite books are digitised.

What a neat site. Thanks, OF. I think there are several books I may have to check out there.

Thanks for the link! I'd looked at that site a few years back and they've made so many additions since.
