Here's the true part: The Department of Transportation confirmed the language was on the cars.gov Web site, but on Aug. 3 it was removed. The DOT released this statement to PolitiFact: "A security warning on the CARS.gov dealer support page that stated computers logged into the system were considered property of the Federal Government has been removed. We are working to revise the language. The language was posted on the portion of the website accessible by car dealers and not the general public."
Yeah, the DoT screwed up the security warning on its' web site. In contrast to the Bush administration 's conduct wrt actual domestic spying, they at least recognized that they screwed up, removed the offending statement, and are issuing a revision.
Also note that this screwed-up statement was never presented to the public: IOW, the idea that Joe Public's computer would become property of the government and a platform for government snooping into people's private lives has no merit whatsoever.
It is frankly disappointing to me that a moderator would present a wingnut (left- or right-) diatribe as "fact" without actually checking first. |
