Mike Vick...

I think dog fighting is sick Hunting with a dog is a work animal fighting them is just torture opinions ?

Lilith 07-26-2007 08:23 PM

I think raising anything to fight is cruel.

IowaMan 07-26-2007 08:27 PM

One of my first memories is of cuddling up next to our German shepherd when I was toddler. I've loved dogs basically all of my life and the thought of pitting them against each other as some sort of "sport" just sickens me.

Today I heard someone saying that Mr. Vick was just showing his love for the animals by letting them show how strong they are..........

I'd better stop before I go off on a rant.

I was hoping this was going to a complete the sentence thread you start with "Mike Vick" and I end the sentence with "should die in a fire."

Never heard of Mike Vick, but I don't believe in blood sports of any kind, animal or human.

Got this pic of Mr Vick from a friend this morning.

Dog fighting/cock fighting/bear and badger fighting/bull fighting are all relics of a more savage past, but sadly probably also a more savage future.

Still no excuse.

God, I hope that's not true. I assumed it was for the love of the dollar (and pathetic bragging rights).

Michael Vick's lawer has announced that Mr. Vick will plead guilty to dog-fighting charges.

IowaMan 08-20-2007 05:47 PM

Yep, I hope he enjoys playing pickup games in the big house because he won't see an NFL field again for quite some time, if ever.

Oldfart 08-20-2007 06:05 PM

Issue him with two gallons of liquid soap?

IowaMan 08-27-2007 10:19 AM

Now ESPN is doing their best to make it a racial issue. :banghead:

IowaMan,

Look on the bright side, they could have turned it into a species issue. :)

Wow... did anyone see that Whoopi Goldberg spoke in defense of Vick today?

Quote:
Goldberg said that “from where he comes from” in the South, dogfighting isn’t that unusual.

“It’s like cockfighting in Puerto Rico,” she said. “There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country.”

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges last week, admitting that he provided money for a dogfighting ring that operated on his Virginia property and helped kill six or eight pit bulls. Vick grew up in Newport News, Va.

Goldberg was selected by series creator Barbara Walters to replace O’Donnell, whose stormy tenure on the ABC program lasted less than a year.

In the Vick discussion, Goldberg served notice that she won’t shy away from controversy.

Co-host Joy Behar looked horrified at Goldberg.

“How about dog torture and dog murdering?” Behar asked.

For many people, dogs are sport, Goldberg replied, and it appeared it took a while for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.

“I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn’t appreciate,” she said.
