Is the truth out there?

I just saw something very strange.

It was like a shooting star, though more yellow in colour.

It came from behind me at about 200 feet in an arc downwards, but within a couple of seconds it vanished and even though its trajectory suggested that it was going to hit the ground, I heard nothing. It made no sound and didn't seem very large.

I admit it - I am freaked out.

???????????????????????????

lucky you!

I have been seeing quite a few shooting stars recently.Although they have been at a distance.

Vigil,

I've never seen one "up close". Seems to have been quite impressive, eh?

You say it looked to be only about 200 feet up. If that is the case that is very odd. Generally anything that continues to burn that low will make quite a bang.

I don’t know where you are vigil, but your post was 18:20 hr. my time and I assume you are on North America and were outdoors. Instrument unaided altitude observations are difficult to estimate in daylight when you are expecting to be doing so. If you are east of 105W long. (Denver), it was dark. Write down your position and direction of view in relation to land marks and the precise time. If you are truly are interested in finding out what you saw, take this information to your local metrological source and then to an astronomical observatory, then your local air traffic control authority for starters.

The truth IS out there.;)

The truth IS out there.

I love December in my part of the world.....because of all the activity. I can't go out of the house without stopping and looking up for a while! The meteor showers are tremendous!

White Noise 12-28-2003 05:38 AM

So this isn't an X-Files post?? Drats.

The truth is out there - and you can take the statement two ways, which is nice.

I love looking at the stars, especially on a beach with friends and a few drinks. Makes you realise how small your problems really are in the grand scheme of things.

Wow. This show is deep.

Did you hear the shooting star whistle, roar or hiss?

If not I suggest it may have been a tad higher than 200 ft.

The yellow colour would have come from the burning of any of a

number of elements as it tore itself apart in the atmosphere.

Did you look for an impact site or residue from the shoting star?

See also PF's reply.

Truth is out there, but needs to be understood in context.

Can you enlighten us?

Oldfart 12-29-2003 08:30 AM

Cryptic, damn cryptic.

Watson, my pipe and de-coder ring please.

Hmmmm. If the dog had barked....

We do not get any of the good stuff in Australia. Did see how bright Mars was. I have seen a UFO while out in the bush. Or perhaps it was the bottle of Jack Daniels and heat that did it.
