Casa del Oldfart

There has been a little progress while we were away.
The cleared area has had some steel cored concrete pads laid. The metal stumps that the house will stand on will be welded to these. The pads are several feet deep. |
No big bad wolf will come and huff and puff and blow your house down! :)
|
Love following the progress
|
Little by little ... the dream is coming true
|
Come on! ............... Some information please.
What is the diameter and length of those pilings? Do you have a pic of one of the tops? What is the pattern center size? How many cubic meters were poured? |
PF needs his fix.....just like an addict lol ;)

The frame has begun. This is only the living part of the house, not the carport or verandah which are still just concrete pads as yet.
|
So far, so good. :thumb:
|
This feels like deja vu.......like I've seen these before "somewhere".....hmmm, spooky! :p

My email has started to play up, something called spamhaus is now blocking me. Frustration rules. |
Steel frame, OF?

Yep, GG. The soil up here is riddled with termites. |
^^^^ Bummer. :(

Not really DB. Tropical savannah across Australia and Southern Africa has no large grazing animals. Termite colonies fill that niche, and we build to give them as little encouragement as possible. The original overland telegraph was built on timber poles. The lesson was quickly learned and iron posts with efficient insulators became the rage. As a historical aside, the aboriginals learned to throw stones at the glass insulators, garnering a ready supply of very sharp and durable spear points and tools. |
^_____ Very interesting.

That's a hell of antenna you have going there. ;)

The pre-fabricated frame is going up at a staggering speed.
|
Looking good! Fun seeing it grow right in front of our eyes and/or other significant parts of our bodies. :)
 |
It'll grow bigger, DB, bigger than we can.
|
Yes, but will it stay bigger longer?
|
Yes GG, I buried some blue tablets in the foundations. The house is firmly rooted in the landscape.
|
But if it gets bigger for more than four hours, does it have to see an architect?

No, a publicist.
|
Woah, that was quick.
|
Which is my room?
|

On the right at the back of the frame, Lil. It'll be even more inviting with a roof, gyprock and the swimming pool. |

And wall shackles, and St Andrew's Crosses, and whip racks, and... |
Lil's drawing up the plans, even as we speak. At least, I think that . . .

To our surprise when we went to the site today, some strangers were climbing all over the structure.
|
Yeah, but at least they're not doing the work strangely.

The trusses are complete.
|
Isn't it amazing how fast construction proceeds once they get going? Looking good, OF. Can hardly wait to see the finished product. ;)
|
You can't wait, DB?
Imagine how M's feeling! |
Why should we imagine, when you can feel her up, and report to us how she feels?
|
'Bout the same as usual, GG.
|
Did someone mention trusses?

This is how history will probably remember my casa.
