*squeak*...*meow*...*ROAR!!!!!*
Sooooo if you have wandered into the What else are you doing right now? thread lately, you can't have missed that some of us have developed a little addiction. :o Since our comments seemed to be taking over that thread, and at soda's suggestion, here's the place to talk about it now. :D
At the Norwegian Kristiansand Zoo, a live cam is following the progress of four lion cubs!!!!!!!!!!! They are so adorable, and seem to be growing before our eyes! This page seems to be saying that the cubs were born the 31st of May. (If anyone can understand anything written on that page, please share!!!!!) There is also this video showing more of the area in which the lions are. |
Very interesting. I'll have to remembe to take a look at that. :o
:rolleyes2 |
|
Ummmm so it's not wallpaper?
|
Momma's all like "Ooo bebeh within licking distance!!!!!"... *SLURP!!!*
|
they're making me sleepy with all their napping.
|
Mom keeps sitting down on the one guy. :yikes:
 |
She just whipped one with her tail! lol
|
I think the same 2 cubs are eating that were there when I left for work.
|
I think they need different coloured leg-bands or something so we can tell them apart!
|
Momma cat looks like Abner now..................he likes to sleep on his back.
|
...you don't think it's time Abner went on a diet? :yikes:
|
Lmao...............well he does weigh 13 lbs.
Good idea about the colored leg bands. |
According to Wikipedia, if these cubs were indeed born on the 31st we can expect them to be walking in about a week :

Nocturnal my ass! It's 02:00 there and she's STILL 'napping'.
|
Must be having good dreams...

Hey, its hard work bringing up 4 children. |
Seriously...if I slept that much I might be a lot skinnier....
Oh....she lifted her head and glared at the cam, lol. |
Today's weights!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2560 gram, 2400 gram, 2360 gram and 2180 gram!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently it says they all have put up to 400 g more since the last time they were weighed! |
*SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!*
In case you were unlucky and missed the cubs getting weighed, sexed and checked over by the handlers this morning (like me), you are in luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They've put up the video of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are the roly-poly-est, squirmiest little bundles of cute EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Quote:
all at the same time too. oi |
Their paws are huge compared to the rest of them. I wouldn't be able to help kissing lion cub toes if I was those handlers.

Obviously you didn't see the one handler getting one of those cute little claws stuck in his shirt during the weigh-in  I saw what turned out to be an ad before one of the vids, & for a moment I thought I was watching the Norse version of This Old House. |
I saw Erick, Hans and Heidi Knobbs do their thing this morning, and I think they must run their numbers by the average. There's no way to tell them apart. :wobbly:
|
I wish it said somewhere (preferably in English :p) how many are male/female!
|
The cute ones are girls, the ugly ones are boys.
(what else? ) |
Must all be girls then :p
|
Of course. LOL
;) |
"Hey... Move over! My turn at that nipple!... Move!!! Me!!!!!!" *shoves bro/sis outta the way*...*gets shoved right back* "I want that nipple toooooooooooooooooooooo!!!"
|
I think they grew overnight!!!
|
 One of the babies just tried to head-bump Momma but Momma pulled back so the cub ended up falling on his face! Poor baby!!!!
|
HA HA :D Momma gradually gets up and moves off cam for a stroll. Slowly a wobbly head raises from where she was laying. I think cub bones are rubber.
|
You learn something new every day : when Momma curls back her lip after licking the cubs, it's called the Flehmen response. Lions have a vomeronasal organ located on the roof of the mouth, and curling back her lip so helps expose the vomeronasal organ and draws scent molecules back toward it.
So even though she looks like she's going "Ew yuck ptoo-i", she's really smelling! |
Very interesting.
Isn't part of the mothers licking newborn and very young, to help stimulate the digestive and waste systems? That would correspond with the f'lehmening' action. |
Yup, I think so.
|
If it's just getting daylight there, I was watching but missed the 'active' period. :rolleyes2 I put the cam on 'pause' so my internet can work on something else, then peek back in every once in a while. When I click 'play', it first looks like mom was just flipped from one lazy position to another with photoshop and the cubs were redistributed like a beanbag toss.
|
:yikes:
First there were no cubs, now Sera (mom) is gone. I'm waiting for the zamboni to do some cleaning. |
They're all there for me - where did you learn her name is Sera?
|
They must have paid the ransom. They are back. :D
|
From here.
http://www.norwaypost.no/cgi-bin/no...maker?id=157389 The short note agrees with them being 2 weeks old now. :) (how can that be? I've been watching them for at least a month now :banghead: ) |
