I cannot try to help anyone if i dont know what the bloody problem is (i am not a mind reader)...The gossiping and bitching grapevine in the background will not solve the problem...and yes i know it goes on) am i that scary that you feel 'Retribution' will come if you tell me your complaints or probs...*shakes head*....that saddens me greatly....i've always tried to be approachable, fair and honest in all my responses and posts. I am after all your friend who just happens to be a Mod

Any complaints or problem is discussed at great length between all Mods (unless confidentality is requested) and all input is considered before any decision is made....None of us Mods made any decision lightly...no matter what you may believe

You are my family...and i love you all...and any decision made is honestly done to protect you

I know a few have been on about censorship...it's a moderated forum...its our job...we are trying to protect you...not spoil your fun or treat you like kids as some put it. If we think something is turning nasty(again discussion between all Mods)...rather than letting it turn into a full blown flame war we put a stop to it...end of discussion

Also threads may disappear...instead of assuming we've done it for the hell of it...ASK...you may not get full details....but we will try to explain it as best we can...You may not be satisfied with the answer you get...Please understand the as Mods, we are privvy to information that we cannot always share...but rest assured if a deletion happens it would have been for a good reason and definately NOT done for the hell of it or just because we can

The above gave me the idea to start this thread

The purpose of this thread is so that all can have a place to voice concerns...complaints or just plain queries

If anyone is not comfortable posting in open forum or the subject is of a personal nature...please feel free to use one of the other means in the quote above to contact me.

You will get a personal answer from me mostly....or from another Mod who feels they can assist you

Thank you....

Romial 03-27-2004 03:27 AM

Oh great Mod...

Can I tell someone to fuck off without feeling the wraith of god...I mean mod on me?

(Please don't hurt me Sharni! :D)

Sharni 03-27-2004 03:31 AM

LMAO....it will earn you the Wrath of a Mod (i know cause i've done it)

If said in jest and to a friend that knows it was meant that way then yep....

But (dreaded but again *LOL*) if meant with any sort of malice then no hun...ya can't

Romial 03-27-2004 03:42 AM

How about if I tell them they have a big forehead? Would that be too malice? :D

Sharni 03-27-2004 03:44 AM

*LOL*....that would depend on the context it was used

Romial 03-27-2004 03:47 AM

Hey you! Yeah you! You know what? You got a big forehead! Haha! Take that! :D

How's that?

Sharni 03-27-2004 03:49 AM

Well if ya feeling lucky....give it a go...i'm sure it'll get some sort of response :D

Got any other queries?

fzzy 03-27-2004 04:22 AM

Like the other Mods, I also am happy to be of whatever assistance I can, and proud to be associated with such a great group of Mods, and such a great group as Pixies people.

The easiest way to get hold of me is through the PM feature and sometimes it may take up to a day before you hear from me ... unfortunately I don't have ready access to the Web during the working day ..... but you will hear back from me as soon as I'm on the site next.

Teddy Bear 03-27-2004 05:52 AM

Who are all the Mods?

How did each of you get to be a Mod? What are the qualifications?

Do you all do the same thing or do you each take care of one area?

Can you give an example of something you would be "privvy" to that we are not, that could affect your decision on something.

Thank you :)

Sharni 03-27-2004 06:10 AM

1. Lilith, Dicksbro, fzzy, skipthisone & Sharni

2. We were asked...No we dont have qualifications...we are members like you

3 We all have our own area...except Lilith (she can go anywhere)

Sharni ~ Sex News, Amateur Pic Post
Dicksbro ~ Sex News, Sex Talk
fzzy ~ Sex News, Erotic Stories
skipthisone ~ Sex News, Erotic Stories
Lilith ~ Site News, Sex News, Sex Talk, Erotic Stories, Amateur Pic Post, Moderators

4. Privvy...a member may contact us and request their pics are removed for a private reason...we can only tell you they have been removed...not the reason why

Anytime :)

PantyFanatic 03-27-2004 10:36 AM

Can Lilith, fzzy & Sharni all work on something private with me.............. at the same time?:lust: :lust: :D :lust:

... and what web cam should I get?

Lilith 03-27-2004 12:40 PM

After speaking with teddy about her questions in chat, she thought I should add something to the answer about the qualifications and selections of mods....

Kim and I selected the mods that we currently have for very specific reasons and chose them based on the way we were setting up the forums. Some general attributes of a good moderator are; availability, positive attitude, kindness, being helpful, being able to withstand criticism(thick skinned), fairness, being able to see the BIG picture, friendliness, creativity, good problem solving skills, willing to work hard for little thanks and no$$, and countless others. While there is no steadfast criteria for being selected and asked to help moderate the boards, there are definite things that would prevent someone from being asked. It is a position that entails confidentiality, professionalism, dependability, and loyalty so gossip mongers and shit stirrers would never be asked to help. The moderators have to work as a team even though they all have areas of expertise. So people who are not team players would not be chosen. Another main thing that would prevent someone from being a mod would be if they were decietful, disrespectful, or tried to fool members, being trustworthy is of utmost importance. And being computer literate enough to operate the board helps too.:D

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. My box is always open;)

Teddy Bear 03-27-2004 01:05 PM

TY Lilith, very interesting.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do you, directed toward any and/or all of you, want to be a Mod?

What do you get out of it?

How much time, on average, do you put in as Mod per day or week?

Sugarsprinkles 03-27-2004 02:26 PM

Great thread, Sharni!!

Thanks for starting this thread!!

I don't have any questions right now, but that's only because teddy has asked them already. :D

Steph 03-27-2004 02:55 PM

We face the same "censorship" criticism on the site I work for. They agreed to the terms of use, 'nuff said!

Of course, this site would be nothing without the tireless work of our moderators. Go Team Mod!

PantyFanatic 03-27-2004 03:31 PM

OH BOY-O-BOY!!!!!!

Isn't this place wonderful? :jump:

Now that I know what it takes to be a mod, I'm sure I can
just run and play all day.:spin:

PantyFanatic 03-27-2004 03:44 PM

All kidding aside, I really don’t know why anybody would be willing to do the thankless job our mods do for us. This place has come to mean so much to so many of us because of the unique policy set down by the founders and held to by the extraordinary people at the helm every day. This is an unimaginable difficult job that we have had carried out from the start and keeps our home the place it is. Thank you all for your steadfastness and dedication.

fzzy 03-27-2004 03:57 PM

In answer to your questions Teddy ... for me I'm a mod because I really enjoy the site and when I was asked felt that I could offer something to the site. I think I was asked, in part, because I was already very active in the stories forums with writing stories of my own.

My "job" here is probably less timeconsuming than it is for most of the other moderators since my main function deals with the stories forums ... first and foremost my job there it to make sure the stories are in keeping with the rules we have .... NOT too many rules ... no underage participants and no beastiality ... either one of those will either get an edit of the story or it will be deleted .... either of which will get a PM from me, Skipthisone or Lilith ... depending on who caught it first ... letting the storyteller know why the action was taken and if it has happened before with that same person, they will probably get a warning about continued unacceptable behavior.

So my time on the site doing my mod job depends on how eloquent our writers are during a particular period of time .... if someone floods the stories forums in a short period of time, we may temporarily move the stories out of general circulation until they can be reviewed for content in a timely manner. But for the most part, we try to make sure that the stories have been reviewed within a day or two of being submitted. Usually you will see the phrase "last edited by ______ on (date)" at the end of the story or "@" showing that it was reviewed and/or edited by that person for content ... by the way, a storyteller can also edit their submission for a particular period of time.

When we edit stories, generally the changes that are made

Spelling errors will be fixed if needed (if you are using a particular spelling for effect, if it is apparent that you are doing so, we don't "correct" the spelling") ...

Insert blank lines to break up particularly long paragraphs -- this makes it easier reading for all that come to the site and less intimidating to a reader when they view a story ...

If it is an easy fix, I'll fix the tense of words so that there is consistency in the story .... (i.e., not switching back and forth from current to past tense).

Anyway, that's pretty much what moderators do in the stories forums .... Also, when there is a controversy on site about any of the forums, we ask other moderators for an opinion on what should happen, or give an opinion on how something should be handled, as Sharni said, we discuss if something is questionable, and/or inform the other moderators when an action has been taken.

What I get out of being a mod ... a sense of pride and joy in all that Pixies is to me and to other people I have come to care about a great deal. And of course, being a "storyteller" myself, I love being able to do something to help other storytellers, as well as the satisfaction of having my stories in the same place as other high caliber stories.

Teddy, Hope I answered all your questions from my perspective.

1. I do it because i love Pixies...What it stands for...its acceptabilty of all types of person...the members mean a damn lot to me and i want to help them in any way i can....this is one way i can do that...I hope to be able to help keep Pixies as it was and hopefully always will be with the least amount of "change"

2. Love, Pride, and a sense of doing my best

3. I spend as much time here as real life will allow...and during that time i am always a member who happens to be a Mod...i scan over all parts of Pixies...if i happen to see something i consider 'dodgy..if its in my area i fix it...if it is another area i send a message to the other Mod concerned
In other words if i am here i am moderating...minimum of 4 hrs/day a day to 20+hrs/day....like i said depends on real life situations

A bit more on 'If it's in my area i fix it'

I do the 'Pic Section'...I am on the look out for material ie Beast, kiddy porn, Copyrighted images..etc

I PM people who post pics with other ppl in them to ensure that they DO have specific permission from the other person concerned to post them on a adult site'....if i do not hear back by the deadline or they admit that they dont have permission them the thread or pics are removed

I remove any negative/rude comments from anyones thread, and the commentor gets an all personal PM from me, stating that type of thing is not at all acceptable here!

Though i will admit...most seem to behave themselves in my section *LOL*...i rarely have to pull my Mod shoes on in my section...hmmmmmmmm...maybe i am scary after all :D:D

davidlovesit 03-27-2004 06:22 PM

DITTO what PF said !!! Pixies is great, due in large to our Mods. Thanks for all you do!!

fzzy and Sharni,
Thank you both for your answers. They were very interesting and thoughtful responses. I always like knowing the background of things, the why and how come. I hope I wasn't the only one wondering. I sure didn't mean to turn this into the ''teddy asks a Mod" thread. :D

A big THANK YOU to all our Mods!! Pixies wouldn't be the same without you! :) :)

Sharni 03-27-2004 08:08 PM

Thats the reason i started the thread...so you had a place to talk to us...to get you questions answered

I am here for you all...and have no problem with answering what you ask *hugz*

fzzy 03-27-2004 08:31 PM

I also want to say thanks for all the positive comments about the mods .... AND for the opportunity to answer any question I can. thanks everyone.

teddy,
I think you just asked the questions that a lot of us would have asked. I know you asked the ones that I would have asked, and probably a bit more politely. :D

Thanks again Sharni for starting this thread and to Lil and fzzy, as well as Sharni for so thoroughly answering all the questions that have been asked so far.

way22hot 03-28-2004 01:27 PM

I didn't realize there were so many people working so hard for my enjoyment
Thanks to you all
Keep up the good work:D

rockintime 03-28-2004 01:55 PM

Great thread...nice to understand things a bit more. Thanks, Mods, for caring for the site and your hard work.

And Teddy, thanks, for asking the questions I would have and a few that I wouldn't have thought of....you're so-o-o-o-o inquisitive. ;)

huntersgirl 03-28-2004 03:23 PM

Ditto on what rockintime said! :)

Scarecrow 03-28-2004 03:46 PM

I would like to thank two of our Mods for their help lately.

Sharni for showing me the right direction and opening my eyes TY
and Lilith for keeping track of what is happening at Pixies TY

I have a respect for all present and past mods here at Pixies, I would not want to put up with some of the things that go on here.

Thank you Pixies Mods.

dicksbro 03-29-2004 04:36 AM

Sharni and fzzy already expressed my feelings about being a mod.

Quite honestly, I stand in awe of these ladies and especially Lilith for the work they do. They are absolutely the very best.

Like they've said, I love Pixies. I have for the almost two years I've been a member and I just feel happy when I can do anything to help keep the place running smooth, or, when I've been able to help someone with a problem. That's very satisfying.

WildIrish 03-29-2004 12:13 PM

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for Pixies Mod Squad. And thought Sharni says that people generally behave themselves in her area...they are all called upon to make some tough calls or choices that leave them open for criticism by those that don't have the full picture. I'd have a hard time taking that kind of criticism without feeling the need to defend my actions and they all are able to maintain the confidentiality that helps to keep a high level of respect between us Pixies.

Thank you each and every one for the job you all do. I have enjoyed interacting with you all on the boards and sporadically thorough PM's as well.

skipthisone 03-29-2004 01:18 PM

I may be biased, but I will go with Dicksbro on this one and just give kudos to those great ladies....and maybe one for Dicksbro too... :D

Oh, and I am just the token "pet" mod to be used and abused by the female mods....and damn they do a fine job at it....

WildIrish 03-29-2004 01:21 PM

Maybe if you weren't such a clown fanatic. :D

skipthisone 03-29-2004 01:36 PM

Clowns happen....

:clown:

Aqua 03-29-2004 05:56 PM

LMAO!

Teddy Bear 03-31-2004 11:20 PM

Its me again... Just full of questions. :)

1) How do you decide if a thread should be just locked or if it should be removed from the board completely?

2) How do you check someone's age in here or chat? I don't remember giving any ID when I joined. I could tell you I'm 28 or 88... How would you know?

Scarecrow 03-31-2004 11:31 PM

Teddy Bear I'm not a Mod but I can answer question #2 because I've been here long enought to know that Lilith has a crystal ball to tell her what your age is :D

Cheyanne 03-31-2004 11:31 PM

Me thinks that ----------^^^^^^ should also be christened the "curious one" :p

Good questions Teddy!

Like the others, I feel that the mods do an excellent job. They set the tone of the place and make it more family like. Kudos to all of you!!!!

Hi...since Sharni is off I will try to answer these.

1) We have a relaxed protocol of sorts since this is far less of a problem than on many other boards. In general a thread might be locked instead of removed if there were original on- topic posts that were substantial. If a thread begins with a post that is purely posted for the purpose of inciting an argument/personal attack and one does indeed erupt, it may be pulled. Originally I was instructed by admin to remove any off topic posts and to lock the thread, if the thread was salvagable, if not, pull it. Everyone who is a member here agreed to a set of standards and were notified that this is a moderated board and that posts could be edited or removed, when they joined. This does not remove the poster's responsibility to be respectful in their posts. Threads are removed for many many reasons other than arguments/personal atacks. Sometimes for reasons we can share and sometimes for reasons we can not. If you ever have a question about a thread feel free to ask a moderator and if they can give you an answer they will.

Pic threads that are removed, are usually removed at the request of the poster but more often they are removed because they are images stolen from other websites and not the poster's own pics.

Stories are removed or edited if they contain references to minors. If an author repeatedly posts stories involving minors after being warned, they will be banned to prevent further posting.

2) Members are asked to confirm they are over 18 when they join. Do some lie???? yes.....Do I/we catch them? Usually. I am not going to explain how I/we find out because it gives away the edge that keeps them screwing up and revealing themselves. It is the sites responsibility to ask if they are adults and to remove any known minors, we do that. I have had to ban current members who were minors when they originally joined. I have welcomed them back and helped them reregister etc. once they are legal.
