Lord of the Rings - Return of the King
 

Yesterday, (Boxing Day) I took my children to see the third film in the Lord of the rings Trilogy. We had to advance purchase tickets and there was a huge queue waiting to go in, We went an hour early to get good seats.

The movie took 3 hours and twenty minutes but it was time that passed swiftly. It devloped many of the characters much more than the first two films and some of the battle scenes were totally awsome.

There were touching and emotional moments as well as action aplenty. Having read The Hobbit and the enthralling Lord of the Rings books by Tolkein, I came away feeling that the books were enhanced by the movies when often you feel let down after seeing the movie having read the book(s).

Really worth seeing.

The tale told on the screen was a bit different from that of the book, but I do think Mr. Jackson illustrated the carnage of battle better than Prof. Tolkein described it.

Eek! Better than Tolkein?

Well Prof. Tolkein admitted himself that he was not the best at the depictions of the battles. If they can be conveyed by someone who can still adhere to the original style and only fill in the gaps and make it riveting....HUZZAH I say!

I hope to see it soon. I can't wait! I saw the first one at the cinema, was just getting into it and then it ended! Didn't get to see the 2nd one but really hope to see the 3rd.

Slightly off topic... but... Anyone that has a chance to should really check out the Lord of the Rings exibition. It's going to USA and then moving on to Australia before it disappears forever... I highly recommend it. It's so amazing seeing the costumes and weapons up close... You even get to see the waxwork of Boromir (played by Sean Bean) from the first movie, when he was in the boat. Absolutely breathtaking.

On another note, although Harry Potter has nothing to do with Lord of the Rings, since it was brought up, I find the books and movies enchanting, and anything that can get kids to take up reading is a good thing in my opinion.

i woke up 5:30 in the morning to go c it lucky i did coz on the news later that day a lot of people had been turned down due to people Pre purchaseing there tickets online...got to say it was kick ass

You may wish to avoid both. Patience. They will soon be supplanted by some other "hot thing".

I did not say that the film was better than the book. In my opinion, it is not, for a variety of reasons. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields however, by being a battle without gunpowder, lends its self to spectacle, and I thought Mr. Jackson used that very well in the film.

i absoloutley adored it, with a crazy passion!!
i was weeping at the end, no, i sobbed. i easily cry at things, but that was excellent. i am so impressed by Mr. Jackson's abilities, a most excellent director me thinks!
i am excited to hear that he's looking into making The Hobbit... now i'm not quite as sad that the trilogy has ended.... :)

Oh... and Legolas!? Sharniqua- i am on the same wavelength as you when it comes to him... just perfection i say!

Wife and I saw the movie this afternoon. It was very good with about the right blend of emotions. :D Looking forward now to the release of all three together in a DVD set. :)

Just to clarify what I wrote, I said it enhanced the book not that it was exactly the same.

Has been a long time since I read the books so my memory of the contents is not at all perfect.

However the film was great :)

The film was spectacular! Mr. Jackson et al created a work of art distinct from that of Prof. Tolkein. And why not? It is a different medium and plays to a different audience.

I think Mr. Jackson has every reason to be proud of his efforts and those of the myriad people who worked to deliver his vision.

I loved it and cried my eyes out the first time. Secodn time I still cried but not as bad. :)

Saw the film the other day and loved it - the build up to and the actual charge of the Riders of Rohan had the hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stood on end!!! I will be going to see it again later this week. :D

Excellent movie. I bawled at the end.

The best line I can think of to do with Elves comes from a book called Grunts and is spoken by the leader of a group of orcs called Ashnak and goes something like this - "Pass me another Elf, this ones split!" :D

Well I went and saw it today. It seemed to me that elves were not at all like the book. More like Star Trek Vulcans. Other then that was a good watch. Better on the big screen. I saw the first film on cable TV in the States.
