Lilith,

In all sincerity, I am touched by your faith that the members can handle the issues. I am also embarrassed to admit that I expected you to not reinstate the thread.

Thank you.

In your reply to my post, you mention, in regards to you post to seriousfun "...i imagine he has done the right thing and chosen to ignore it."

Out of respect to Lilith, and in gratitude for her reinstating the thread, I extend this choice to you:

1. I am willing to ignore your post.
2. I am willing to send my reply to you as a Private Message.
3. I am willing to post my reply in this public forum.

If you elect to not answer, I shall assume that you would prefer that I do the right thing and ignore it.

If anyone wants to know what "McCarthyism" really was, allow me
to suggest the book "Treason" by Anne Coulter.I had my library,
get it for me & while it wasn't as informative as "Deriliction of Duty" by Robert Patterson Lt. Col.(RETIRED)USAF,it was good.
Irish
P.S. Like the list,this isn't mandatory,just a suggestion!

Cheyanne 11-01-2003 08:57 PM

Lilith 11-01-2003 08:59 PM

Cheyanne I'd give you a lick of my cone but it's sort of smooshed:p

Irish,

Dude, you sure know how to keep a frank and candid thread alive!

But seriously, guy, in the context of the McCarthy era, whenever the Hollywood gliterati sees - or thinks they see - shadows cast in their direction, I find it understandable how they would have a knee-jerk response. It really was a threatening time when viewed from the Big Orange.

I can only hope that some day they will practice a more reasoned involvement with society. Just read Barbara Streisand’s comment: "How could such a destructive man be so popular with the American people?" The spooky thing is that she is entirely sincere! She, and most of her ilk, are so insulated from the America in which the other few hundred million people live that they don’t "get it".

Given their abilities of image making, this would be a powerful crew if they did function effectively.

Steph 11-01-2003 09:12 PM

Coulter? She's a right-wing columnist, not an expert on McCarthyism!
<sigh>

This link gives a good summary of some of the careers that were in trouble because of a paranoid, right-wing government who wanted to blacklist intelligent people who had differing views:

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmas...ccarthyism.html

The names on that list, including Charlie Chaplin (!) are talented people, the same as the people on the list that originally started this thread.

I still like Charlie Daniels and Toby Keith even though they support the Bush government. I'm not going to not buy their albums. I'm open minded and get my information from a variety of sources.

Irish 11-01-2003 09:52 PM

Steph---No one said that she was an expert!Did you see the piece
on Toby Keith, the other night? My wife loves country music,so she
watched it.I think that it was-60 mins.11.Toby is one of her favorites!He has a" new"CD out.I think it's called Shock em-Y'll or
something like that! Irish
P.S.You're correct,if you read things from the R & L side,you can be truly open minded!Also,Anne Coulter,being a US citizen has a
right to free speech.

I like them too. But will still buy their CDs, as I will still buy The Dixie Chicks. And will continue to do so until I feel they've gone too far with their support or disagreement with the government.
That's the great thing about living in a democatic republic.....we're each free to express our opinion in our own way. At least for now, we are.

So why post a list of people to blacklist because they spoke out against the Bush government?

Irish 11-02-2003 12:04 AM

As I said before,it only lists the people,it is not mandatory!
Noone said that you HAD to blacklist them.Everyone has a free choice!I posted it because it was Public Information! Why did you
post that website?Because you felt like it! Irish
