If you have cable or satilite MSNBC,CNBC, Oxygen and USA channels are showing other sports. I have seen some archery, equisterian and shooting compititions. Also baseball and softball
|
I enjoy the Track and Field events, having been a former track man in high school.
I also like the equestrian events. |
I've been watching the swimming. Super proud of Torres!
|
Torres, that woman rocks, for any age.

You know, with all the hype about the Olympics I could really care less about them. *shrug* Oh well. I guess I'll watch movies for the next.... um.... however long it takes....

Okay, I actually sat down and watched the Olympics last night. Boy am I pissed. The German and American girls did much better than both the Korean and Chinese and yet the judges gave them a higher score on the individual vault competition. One of the Asians actually fell to her knee after having bad hand placement on the vault platform and the other almost fell as well. Yet the German lady (who was competing at the age of 33) did an almost perfect routine to my inexperienced eyes and only placed silver. The American came in fourth, but she did have a few flaws to her routine though what they were escape me. For more information check one of the news websites that's covering the Olympics. Though after all the girls had done their routines, one of the news people covering it talked to an old Russian coach that's been training and attending these competitions for over 30 years. Even he said that the Asians were practically given the medals they received (they both placed one in first and the other third) and they short changed the American girl and even the German who both had better routines.

I watched the USA men's basketball team destroy Germany this morning and am wondering just what kind of team it would take to beat those guys. There should be no way in the world they don't come away with the gold this time around. :wish:

That 33 year old looked like a man. |
As far as I know that was a woman. Though I agree to a certain extent. I've seen her before at previous Olympics and she's very good, especially for her age. She's yet to be disqualified so I'm guessing that the equipment is correct for her to compete in the female events.
|
I think she should have chromosome testing :p
|
That 33 year old woman has a son with lukemia and she competes to pay for his medical treatments. She was on the 1991 Russian Unified team with Nastia Liukin's father. She now competes for Germany because her son could not be treated in Russia but he could be in Germany.

she still, "looka like a man."

Yeah I kind of felt the same way. It's almost as if you're the hosting country your person can land on her knees and still medal. |

Why can't we hand off a 1oz stick? The men dropped it, the women dropped it, WTF!

I wasn't interested in the Olympics until Team GB started winning a huge amount of medals! :D

we need a bigger stick :p |
They have done it!
I doubt anyone who has any knowledge of the opening and closing and everything presented in between will dispute that China set a standard that will stand for decades. Even a non-sport enthusiast like myself has to recognize they have taken hold of the present on a scale not conceived by most of us before. I believe they were chosen to host the Olympic games by a world that had a much different view of them than every dramatic demonstration has shown us. |
Now that the torch is out and the 2008 Summer Olympics is behind us, we should make note of some of the words the army of professionals reporters gave us. :)
Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators so far during the Summer Olympics that they would like to take back. 1. Weightlifting commentator: 'This is Gregorieva from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing. 2. Dressage commentator: 'This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother. 3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father. 4. Boxing Analyst: 'Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious. 5. Softball announcer: 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again. 6. Basketball analyst: 'He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces. 7. At the rowing medal ceremony: 'Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew. 8. Soccer commentator: 'Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field. 9. Tennis commentator: 'One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my God, what have I just said? :roflmao: |
Is that like saying most of our imports come from other countries?
|
Well, PF, they're just trying to interest the mainly American audience in soprts that otherwise dont' get much attentin here.
