I couldn't get on line last night so I missed seeing this :o

Little Athletics is an organisation that provides modified track and field for children aged 5 to 13 years old.

The motto is family fun and fitness. The emphasis is on participation and improvement not winning. Any child who achieves a personal best gets immediate recognition by the recorder announcing the feat and is applauded by officials, spectators and the other athletes so it is a very good builder of self esteem. The children make a new circle of friends and it is not a baby sitting service, a parent or guardian has to be present for the child to be able to compete. This makes it a real family event and the parents run the meeting so it also keeps costs to a minimum. nearly 100,000 children compete in little aths every week during the athletics season.

It is the most rewarding organisation I have ever been involved with, to see smiling faces of children enjoying themselves and engaging in healthy activity in a family environment is worth every second of the time I put into it.

I am really a little embarrassed at the recognition I have received. The Launceston City Council awarded me a certificate of appreciation for civic minded duty, the South Launceston centre awarded me a special certificate and gave my family free accomodation to the state titles as well as the State service award shown here.

Athletics is still my summer passion and I have now become Treasurer of Northern Athletics as well as being the Technical manager and Chief official of the Discus and Hammer.

No rest for the wicked LOL

Thank you all for your kind comments

It is officially classified as "Common but Vulnerable" in Australia. As a species, it is not currently considered to be endangered.

Until the early twentieth century, platypus were widely killed for their fur. The species is now protected by law throughout Australia.

My Girl Scout troop recently represented Tasmania at our yearly International Fair. So I thought I'd share some of what we learned. :-)

These are cute and definetly not endangered.... lol.

Could be quite interesting to say the least. "Pixie man held without bail for transporting a protected animal." Lixy maybe you should look into one of the toy ones. roflmao!
