The organisation has apologised for the inconvenience
Police have launched an inquiry after a website for an organisation which tackles poverty in Powys was found to link to an internet porn site.

Powys Communities First is supposed to provide information about helping under-privileged communities.

But a spokesman said the site had been taken offline for the foreseeable future, and apologised for any inconvenience.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they were investigating.

Powys Communities First, which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, said the website had been removed after a web link was discovered directing people to a website that "contained inappropriate material".

"We took the website offline as soon as this web link was discovered and are currently assisting Dyfed-Powys Police with their investigations into how this situation occurred," said a spokesman.

Deprived communities

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we hope to have the website back online as soon as we can."

Communities First tackles poverty and social disadvantage in the most deprived communities across Wales.

The Welsh Assembly Government said it funded local partnerships through its Communities First scheme.

A spokeswoman added: "These partnerships are responsible for their own administration including their websites and their content.

"We are naturally concerned with this discovery, however this appears to be a genuine mistake. Steps will be taken to rectify this."
